What to Expect
Langley Chiropractic
Your first visit to our clinic begins with completing the New Patient Forms [link to the contact page & new patient forms], followed by a consultation with the doctor. This lets us know more about your condition and your overall health and health history to determine whether Chiropractic care would be beneficial in your case.
Your long-term health history is as important to us as the details of your presenting complaint. Both are critical in assisting the doctor with determining a diagnosis. For this reason, the doctor will review your completed health history forms and may ask other clinically relevant questions about your case during your thorough initial consultation.
A Chiropractic examination is also performed on the first visit. This helps us determine your overall muscle tone and strength, reflexes, posture and your ability to turn and bend. This includes a complete orthopedic, neurological and chiropractic examination as indicated by your consultation. Other diagnostic tools, such as X-rays, Computerized Postural Analysis and a thermography scan may be incorporated into the exam if the doctor feels it will provide you with a more accurate diagnosis. Upon your consent to our recommendations, your chiropractic care will commence when the results of your tests become available. Expect to spend about 1 hour in the clinic on your first visit.
Your Second Visit
On your next visit, the Report of Findings, the doctor will show you the results of the initial examination and explain what they mean as well as how your body functions in regards to your nervous system. The doctor will talk briefly about physical, emotional and chemical stressors in your daily life. Understanding how much of and how often you face certain types of stress helps the doctor determine how best to manage your particular case. This is also when all your questions will be answered. The doctor will prescribe a program for your unique health problems and health care goals. This is generally when you receive your first chiropractic adjustment. We use only gentle low force techniques to maximize effectiveness and comfort. Most people report a feeling of well-being, relaxation or increased energy after their adjustments. Expect to spend about 15 minutes in the clinic.
For best results, become actively involved in your recovery. The better you understand your problem, the faster you will recover.
Regular Visits
The primary treatment is the chiropractic adjustment. An adjustment is a gentle, specific force applied to a specific joint. Patients are often pleasantly surprised at how comfortable this procedure is. If your progress is as expected and your case remains uncomplicated by new injuries or symptoms, expect to spend 10 minutes in the office.
Re-Evaluation
We regularly track your progress to assess your status and treatment program. Periodic re-testing incorporating only the essential tests for your particular case will be conducted. Your doctor will make further recommendations based on the exam findings. A treatment will follow the testing procedures. Expect to spend 20-30 minutes in the clinic.
